Letty McHugh is a visual artist and writer who was born in Brontë Country, where she still lives with her cantakerous cat. She makes work about the universality of personal experience which, she says, ‘is an intellectual way of saying she’s interested in people, their stories and things that connect us all.’

Her practice draws inspiration from her own experience of living with a chronic illness and she is currently researching ways of making work that can bring connection and solace to people experiencing isolation.

In 2022, Letty’s installation Anchorage, an amazing space for rest and recuperation, was commissioned by Attenborough Arts Centre and, in 2023, her collection of poetry, images and lyric essays - BOOK OF HOURS won the Barbellion Prize, earning her an appearance on BBC Radio 4's Front Row. She also claims to make an excellent rhubarb trifle.
